You might be wondering how tea is related to mental health. Also, why is everyone discussing about mental health these days?

Suppose you have a fever or any sort of aches and pains, you will immediately approach a doctor and take proper medications. You might also follow the diet and do the physical exercises recommended by a doctor.

But, when you are anxious or depressed, you consider it as something normal. Since anxiety and depression are not physical, or they cannot be seen, it is not much of a concern. You don’t feel like going to a doctor or a counselor until it starts affecting your daily life.

Isn’t it rude to treat yourself like that?

Is your mind not a part of your body?

Why do you neglect your mental health even if it is so important to succeed in all phases of life?

You need to get out of this mental-health-ignoring perspective immediately. Unless you are mentally stable, everything else falls apart, including your physical health.

It is quite shocking to know that each year, billions of Americans admit that they are suffering from some form of mental health problem. But it is not just about America. The situation in the rest of the world is no different.

But, people feel ashamed and embarrassed to open- up about such issues as stress, hypertension, overthinking, etc. And the biggest problem is that when you tend to keep these emotions within, it explodes in unexpected forms and aggravates the issue. This has to change.

If you don’t care for yourself, who else will?

You, yourself, should take responsibility for your happiness and wellbeing. When you fail to understand this, you will probably fail in all aspects.

So, figure out ways to do some self-care and start taking care of your mind as the most crucial part of your body. Set aside time just to take care of yourself each day.

Are you too busy to do that?

Then, what is the easiest way you can carve out some time to take care of yourself?

A hot rejuvenating cup of tea!

Yes, whenever I feel exhausted or have a stressful headache, an easy, immediate solution that comes to my mind is to have a warm cup of tea.

Researchers have proved that tea has some invigorating qualities to reduce stress and calm your nerves.

Therefore, a cup of relaxing tea is an effective way to include some time for yourself and build a self-care routine.

“In Chinese, we say tea washes the spirit. It’s not something that just enters your stomach; it also enters your mind.”- Patrick Cui, Tea Master.

Now, let’s dive into the reasons why tea helps.

1. Helps to relax and relieve stress:

Tea is a beverage that helps you relax and relieve stress. It is not just a traditional saying; it is backed up by scientific research.

According to the studies, an amino acid L-theanine is present in teas that could alter the brain channels and give you relaxation and calmness.

And drinking tea helps in reducing the stress hormone cortisol.

2. Helps to boost memory:

With aging, people experience memory loss. This risk of cognitive impairment, which can cause Alzheimer’s and dementia, can be miraculously reduced with the habit of drinking tea.

Studies reveal that among herbal teas, green tea specifically contains high amounts of EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), which improves cognitive performance even in older people.

3. Helps to uplift mood and creativity:

Studies reveal that tea is a beverage that has the power to improve your divergent thinking and creativity. It means it could help you develop different potential solutions to a problem.

Also, herbal teas contain an active ingredient that stimulates happy hormone receptors, dopamine and serotonin.

Are you amazed by the stress-busting benefits of teas?

There are a lot of different types of teas or tisanes that could boost your mental and physical health. Green tea or herbal tisanes like chamomile, rooibos, and hibiscus are known to promote mental health. However, any good quality tea would offer most of the abovementioned benefits.

One of my favorite kinds of teas is Wild Teas. They are as close to nature as one could get through a cup of tea.

Wild Teas from India are the naturally preserved and chemical-untouched, nutrient-rich teas sourced from the mountains of Manipur. Since there are no chemicals and no machinery involved, the tea obtained is highly pure and organic. These are also entirely hand-processed and sun-dried. There is nothing artificial. It is like something straight from nature. If you want to know more about wild teas, check out my blog here: Wild Teas from India
